REU Program at the University of
University at Buffalo, State University of New York
Type of Institution: Comprehensive University
URL: www.chemreu.buffalo.edu
Description: The Chemistry REU site at the University at Buffalo (UB) focuses on a theme of the American Chemical Society's 2004-2006 strategic plan: the transformation of the definition of "chemistry" to reflect its multidisciplinary nature. Students work full time in the lab. There are several field trips to industry (Kodak, Baush and Lomb) and research labs (Roswell Park Cancer research institute) during the week.
Fields of study: analytical, organic, inorganic, medicinal, physical, biological chemistry with collaborative opportunities in engineering,
physics, and cancer research
Qualifications: There is no GPA
requirement and we have accepted students with chemistry, biology,
biochemistry and engineering degrees. We aim for a mix of students from universities and smaller colleges. We are also interested in increasing the participation of students from populations that are underrepresented in science and engineering and providing opportunities for students who have no prior research experience.
