Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) Program
University of Wisconsin
Type of Institution: Graduate Research University
URL: http://www.mrsec.wisc.edu/REU/index.php
Description: The Summer Undergraduate Research Experience-Research Experience for Undergraduates (SURE-REU) program provides students with opportunities that build on their interest in science and engineering careers. Participating students conduct a nine-week research project in an area of engineering or the physical sciences under the direction of university faculty members and work as members of laboratory research teams. Students are exposed to other research available on campus through weekly meetings and faculty seminars, and have opportunities to visit industry laboratories. Planned social activities are also available. At the end of the program, participants present their work in an open seminar.
All participants receive a financial support package worth approximately $5,000. This package consists of a $4,000 stipend for the nine-week period, travel expenses to and from the program, housing in University dormitories, and a meal program at an on-campus facility.
Qualifications: The SURE/REU Program Staff and the College of Engineering in partnership with the UW Graduate School apply the same eligibility criteria as the campus-wide AOF fellowship. Specific eligibility information for this fellowship can be found at: http://info.gradsch.wisc.edu/admin/fellowships/geninfo.html.
